A generalist, also known as an Uomo Universalis, is someone who has broad knowledge rather than narrow knowledge. Of course to be one you should not be so in the extreme, as the saying goes: "An expert knows all about one thing, and a generalist knows little about all things."
So yes, a healthy balance is useful in this area, especially in this world where there is so much to learn! Fortunately the developments in Artificial Intelligence are making great strides, and I can't wait to see how far this will go in my lifetime...
