He spent five year studying Elon Musk, and wrote a book that teaches almost everything of what Elon stands for and finds interesting.
And yes, getting AHEAD is one of Elon Musk's first rules: every hurdle eliminated improves the design, every part deleted is raw profit in the future, especially if you have to prepare for mass production. SpaceX failed on hundreds of design decisions during the Raptor development, to be able to make the V3 Raptor a design of ultimate simplicity.
