In Dutch, "brutaal" is merely when someone is talking back to another, or calling someone names. While nowadays the posting of a simple meme can get you arrested in the UK, I still consider something like that far less brutal than actually harming other people.
Currently I am rewatching House MD, and he is a far more interesting form of brutal: he will outright tell people whatever he needs to get them better, and he does not care in the least whether their feelings are hurt.
