Of course revolutionary actions often cause suppressing reactions, as the system fights whatever is trying to change it. That is because the Status Quo is only interested in surviving. In that it is no different than what we human beings want: being able to grow without suppression!
Character is basically to be you, to be what you are without the mask you think you need to put on for the world around you. It's ok to have ego, but do remember that karma is applicable, and will cause your life to be both miserable and wonderful. I may be quite a character, but I am fully aware of the thoughts that I willfully accept and let go!
