You probably will not recognize the part in the photo above, because it is not a "part" as such. It is the very temporary core of a mold that is used to cast a part of a car's engine you might drive on a daily basis. But it is a part in "the machine that builds the machine" as elon_musk calls it. And believe it or not, humans are very much part of this machine. We in the west may not all directly work in factories that produce physical products, but the machine is much more like a grand overall design that grew over time.
Many humans think they are separate from all this, as if somehow the machines and humans that made their consumer products are not intimately entangled with them. But if you love your new PlayStation or Tesla, you might also consider the love with which it was made, whether it was from engineers that built the complex machinery that assembled it, or the human baings who performed the ever lessening manual labour that is still required for some assembly activities.
