EFFECT acrostic poem artwork

Every Force Feels Each Careful Touch

Effects are potentially dangerous: once while playing baseball in highschool, I was the catcher, and it was a warm day. So the obligatory mask was a true burden. Since we had a good pitcher, I decided to get rid of the mask, figuring nothing was going to make the pitcher miss the glove anyway...

But I had forgotten about the effect the batter could put on the ball. There was the windup, and the ball shot towards the glove. But then the batter missed the ball almost: he sliced it, and the ball went right over the glove, straight into my eye!

I was lucky on one count: the ball used was a softball, which is slightly larger than a regular baseball. That meant the bone of my eye socket stopped the ball before it could squash my eye! It hurt like hell for quite a few days, but my eye survived without any harm done!
