It is said that most scientific discoveries are not preceeded by the ancient outcry of "Eureka!", but instead most often are the result of some mad scientist saying: "Hmm, that's funny..."
And often that expression is just caused by the fact that they encounter some observation which somehow does not fit their pattern of expectation. This is exactly how the grand overall design works: it constantly shows us the patterns and their weird exceptions, in the hope it will prompt our imagination to come up with creative solutions to ongoing challenges.
