I used to think that giving up was a failure, but recently I've come to the realization that it is more like a re-evaluation of your desire in light of the effort it has cost so far. For example, this morning I decided to add a function to my moorelife generation program, so it would also post new updates to x.com. But after a morning of trying to get it to work and running into one hurdle after the other, I decided it was not worth the effort relative to the desire of having this automated.
Of course there is a third aspect to all this: the example is just relevant to myself, and so there is no one to disappoint, and no point of no return had yet been reached. On the other hand I also have aspect of my life I will never give up, simply because it would hurt other people.
