Is it possible that we each live in a reality where we only see other people die, and basically outlive them all? Such a reality would feel lonely, unless we would constantly meet newer beings, which bring new novelty into our lives.
Certainly we would still have to get over the loss of those who left early, and the seemingly endless wars would make it so many leave this realm, but the end scene would be much like the last part of the movie Cloud Atlas, where the main character lives out his life in peace with his much younger partner and their many children.
Of course there would come a part where the children grow up and move out, but the strong bonds between them would remain, based on the stories the old man told tham of a past they never really experienced...
