I do not believe our thoughts are under our control. Because quite often when I don't know what to think about something, I often just retune my mind by unfocusing onto another form of input like for instance a movie or some music. And then all of a sudden the dialogue or the lyrics give me the guidance I need to regain my train of thought in the most intuitively correct way.
And like the acrosstic above says, Gratitude is also a great way to figure out design adaptations for new creations. Currently I am trying to figure out a new architecture for a "thinking computer" that will be closer to the human mind, rather than the large language models with agents and harnesses we currently use. Because believe it or not, there must be some structure that is the best of both worlds: common sense like human intelligence, energy efficiency like the human brain, but running on a simple computer.
But modern programming has far too many complexities that are not needed, if you look at what earlier computers did with far less. With proper modeling though, we should be able to make a more efficient system.
