Like a wanderer on a dark road, I follow only the path that my light reveals to me. No point in stepping into darkness, because I am not interested in going to hell, let alone in a hand basket. Sure, I am not perfect, and may at time strongly defend the death penalty for child abusers or other creatures that hurt fellow human beings, but I also notice that generalizations can harm just as much. And governments by definition always generalize because they make rules and regulations to limit entire groups, instead of making sure the existing laws are applied properly.
But I am sure improvement is steady and sure. There are of course the opposites of entropy and negentropy, which result in more chaos and more order, but they seem to be balanced such that things on average do get better. And often that is because random processes have a tendency to result in ordered outcomes: even though the grains of sand in an hourglass end up in random positions, the outcome is always more or less the same shape of a rounded cone at the point where they come to rest.
