Making Adaptations Permanent

Maps are by definition more permanent than the landscape they eternalize. The landscape changes all the time, and even in today's digitized mapping services, the imagery is often out of date. But this delta between truth and representation is becoming ever smaller: this morning while driving to work, I was told by Google to take a different route, and for good reason (as it turned out later): three car pile-up, so the road was all blocked.

But how far are we away from being able to instantly remove such wrecks by simply transforming them into energy, instead of having to call for tow trucks to move them off? Will we ever be able to make the maps and the real world synchronize by matter to energy or energy to matter transformation?
