We may think the word operating system is quite young, as it only came into fashion after computers became a thing. But programs were there before the OS, for instance in machines like looms and music boxes.
And even we humans have some sort of operating system, which is partially individual, and partially common to the groups we attribute to. But we are fully capable of rewriting and upgrading our systems. Unlearning and relearning things, trying to maintain integrity as we live our lives.
But where will it lead? Computers will not have operating systems for much longer in the normal sense of the word, but will most likely evolve into devices that have a simple kernel turning it into an edge node for an artificial intelligence, rendering the entire user experience in real time!
