In July 2005 Kyle MacDonald executed a series of trades that got him from a red paperclip all the way up to a house 503 Main Street, Kipling, Saskatchewan. I saw this post this morning on X, and it immediately attracted dismissive comments about the fact he probably paid to get the items he traded, but that is beside the point. I don't know if this was Kyle's intention, but he did show that creative uptrading is a very real thing, because you never know how much someone else will value the thing you are trading with.
This is clearly shown in at least one of the trades Kyle made: Corin Bernsen offered him a paid role in a movie he was making, That would not have happened if Bernsen wasn't an avid snow globe collector, who wanted to add the globe to his 6000 globe collection!
Actually, he might have done it all at no cost at all, by simply moving the information of the trades instead of the items themselves, like many brokers do...
