A valued coworker once told me that local optimization does not work . That does not mean that fixing a bottleneck does not increase the amount of throughput for a system , but if you wish to optimize something, it is better to tackle those parts of the solution that have the most general impact.
The analogy is much like a lightning bolt in slow motion: at first you see it branch of in many different directions, until ti finds the path of least resistance which allows it to unload all of its potential across that one path. Life is much like that: relatively low intensity until that one moment you 've been waiting for, or that sudden change you never saw coming. Next you can move your entire energy towards making it manifest !
