Religion is but a control mechanism, and in recent times its influence has waned. For me religion is a way of accepting external control over your relationship with the Grand Overall Design, or whatever you wish to call it. I will not submit to a religion because I have found my own path to the one thing that makes all life flourish.
It is basically the difference between having a fixed picture of your deity, and painting the image yourself as you go along. As far as I am concerned, I love creating the painting way more than just observing what others tell me to see...
