Someone on X offered us a choice of five swords, but I couldn't help choosing "none of the above". My Sword acrosstic tells the reason why: a bow and arrow offers the advantage of being able to keep your distance from the enemy while still inflicting damage. And over the evolution of war, this has always been the case: weapons are developed to have larger range, and better capabilities regarding the infliction of damage.
Likewise, the defensive capabilities evolve on track with that growth in damaging power. Modern radars see hundreds or even upto two thousand kilometers away. And they are seeing smaller and smaller targets. Some can even discern between a bird and a drone!
Developments in technology have certain tendencies: things become smaller, smarter, faster, and more versatile. But at the same time there is a tendencey to move away from the intricately decorated designs of the past. Novelty is the driving factor, and the question is whether that is a good or bad thing...
