As I am writing this page, I am also watching the Stargate SG-1 episode "Out of Mind", where it seems a mysterious "SGC crew" is telling the members of the team that they were sent back frozen through the stargate and trying to pump them for information. Now of course, anyone with some experience in storytelling will notice that is at least suspicious!
It is true we have so much more information and knowledge, and the lines of communication are becoming ever more entangled. And even though lots of concepts are fake and fantasy, the intervowen aspects of all these webs of intelligence are growing stronger and stronger as we communicate and design new and better alternatives.
