Back when Star Trek made the idea of a society without money, many people must have realized that this would not happen overnight, and probably would need a step in between where money no longer is a viable alternative. Fortunately, Crypto-currency is about to seriously shake up the financial world.
But not just that: even the current way of programs running locally, or in browsers and controlled from vast centralized services will be replaced by fully distributed alternative with zero downtime, and total security against cyber attacks. Sure, we will still have to do quite some development, but they will in the end get to this level, already referred to as Web 3.0.
