Leave it to people to invent the idea that land can be owned. And out here in the Western world it is quite pricey at that: here, depending on whether you are outside of town or in a big city, prices can range from around 120 to 1200 euros a square meter. Not many people can afford this out of pocket, and thus they need a mortgage for both the land and the home they are building on it.
In a country like the Phillippines the situation is far more different: prices there range around 1000 to 5000 pesos a square meter, or like 20-100 euros. For many people this evolved into a dream of going there and just retiring on a small patch of land and building a home there.
I guess this is how richess gets distributed across the globe. A lot of the flow of wealth is due to the fact that people love the people and things they love, and are willing to spend their hard-earned money on it. And that is good.
