An orbit is normally only considered possible, if you believe in a spherical planet, it would be a complex shape if you believed the Earth is flat, the north pole is a point, and Antarctica is a circular ice wall that keeps further lands hidden from our sight. For now however, I will simply present both possibilities, without getting stuck on the belief that one is more true than the other.
