Automation is already an S Curve that is well on its way, just like the S Curve of mechanization before it. What is now happening however is the set of contemporary curves that will make this world a far better place. Multiple S Curves for transportation, energy, food and maybe more are happening at the same time, leading us into a righter future where fixing the environmental problems will become easily affordable rather than having to be forced through a CO2 market mechanism that lets companies buy their way out of truly improving their impact on the environment.
What also greatly improves the manufacturing is the new first principles approach that Tesla has to get their production organized. Like no other company they are able to adapt the machine that builds the machines, and upgrade their designs without having to shut down production.
